Tornadoes are very dangerous windstorms. They are very familiar to people who have lived in the southern US. New residents to Georgia need to have knowledge of tornadoes for their personal safety. The first video report is from ABC news. It was seen nationally.

ABC affiliate WSB-TV has been the market leader in local news for many years, possibly decades. This means that more people watch WSB for local news than the other stations. Reporter Pam Martin, a veteran in local news, tells the story of tornado damage in Georgia.

Safety before and during a tornado is very important. The Red Cross offers good suggestions.

So does The Weather Channel. If you do not know the difference between a 'tornado watch' and a 'tornado warning,' read this short article. This could save your life.

I have never been in a disaster like I watched in the video. That’s pretty awful! I thought that tornadoes were winds whirling very fast, but not as powerful as the video showed. I remember when I saw the movie “Twister”, with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. In that film they were chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma in order to study and understand more about them. So, they showed them as a very powerful and destructive natural phenomenon, but I thought they were exaggerating. I couldn’t understand how these winds can throw cows, trucks, houses and car miles away like a piece of paper; now I understand. I was researching a little more about it and I discovered that tornadoes are produced when cold air from the north and warm air from the south, specifically from the Gulf of Mexico, join each other, normally in spring when the weather is not stable. Sometimes it is cold and sometimes it is hot; I don’t know why, but this combination is lethal and most of the time this occurs between Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Alabama and Missouri; an area that American people call “Tornado Alley”. Definitely, I am not prepared for this kind of situation. Most people think that this phenomenon never will happen to them, but it is time to be more cautious. Not only in this season with tornadoes, also, we have to be prepared when hurricanes come in summer. The global warming is affecting the weather and it is possible that these natural events will get stronger, so, watch out!
ReplyDeleteWhen I see, hear or read the news about natural disasters, I think to myself, my God, we humans are so vulnerable and we believe we are the kings of creation. That is a big mistake. Well, to describe a tornado, with its violence and force, is somewhat difficult, especially if you have never seen one live. Fortunately I have ever seen in film or on the news. When I see the news where they report on the disaster that was a tornado, I always wonder why these people still live in these dangerous areas and do not move, for example to Alaska. That was a joke, but why not take precautions and live somewhere else less dangerous? Imagine for a moment to lose all our possessions in a second and most importantly loss of life. People who live in areas where tornadoes occur should reflect on this.
ReplyDelete5 years ago, I saw the movie about the tonado.
ReplyDeleteI remember that tonado is very dagerous thing.
When I was in Korea, I've never seen that. But after watching the news, I can know the tornado's path is narrow, but within that narrow path a tornado can destroy everything. It can smash buildings and rip up trees. Tornadoes can kill people as well.
I wish I will not meet the tonado.
It is incredible how nature is angry. Many natural disaters are happening around the world and really close to us. In my opinion, it is all human fault, because we cause many damages in nature and now she is responding. Now our job is to be prepared for any event that can happen. It is a difficult circunstance because we never know when a disaster is going to happen. Nature is so unpredictable, so we have to be prepared for anything. In the southeast are tornados, iceland has volcanoes and in Brazil it is not different. Huge amounts of rain are causing mudslides which are destroying many cities and killing people. People are losing their houses and members of their family. All of these severe weather events are so sad. We have to be informed by anything that can happen so get a family emergency supply kit and make a fmily plan. The only think that I know is that we have to do our part.
ReplyDeleteI think it is possible for that to happen to me. Especially I stay in old house with my friend.
ReplyDeleteI feel really sorry for people who are having some problems with tornadoes, but it is just part of nature. What we can to do is only preparing for tornadoes and any other dangerous things as Red Cross suggested. I had that problem when I was a high school student. I didn`t go to school for three days so I was very excited and I loved tornadoes but after I heard that I lost 3 friends i don`t like it anymore!
The people who read these comments please be safe and take care of yourself. Im going to fix my house this weekend.
I think it is possible might be happen to me. But this is a natural strom in the areas. we cant stop them but i think people should be prepared for this. they should be very care full about the storms and be prepared for first aid any emergency , and help others which in trouble.just i can say is a natural system by nature we can just hope for a good.
ReplyDeleteI have seen an area where a tornado touched down. It was somewhere in Palm Beach county on Florida, the tornado touched down in a horse farm. I heard about it in the morning and decided to check it out. I've never seen a destruction like that. The tornado made everything get to the ground. It looks similar to a building after an explosion. It is very sad to see that those people lost all their belongs and some of them lost even their families.
ReplyDeleteI think tornadoes are fascinating. I know that it sounds strange, but I would love to see one closer. Unfortunately with the comes destruction. I think to be able to see the power of mother nature that close would be a great gift. If one day I get to see one, and of course survive from it, I promise to tell everything about my experience.
