I have not had the opportunity to know this particular area of Doraville, but I believe that zone must be spectacular. According to the article people who still live there since 1950, have many things to say about their style of life a few years ago, and this is terrific. However, to evaluate if this neighborhood could gain “historic” status or not won’t be easy. First of all, the organization that has to study this case has to prove that this neighborhood has an architectural value. Some communities around Atlanta have the same values and even are close to getting that status. If Northwoods gets this status it is because it has something special that only few communities could have. I am pretty sure there are communities around Atlanta with similar characteristics.
ReplyDeleteDacula is a town established in 1905. It is located at North Gwinnett sharing a border with Barrow County. This town is special because it has new construction around and it keeps many houses like the Northwoods community has. So, I can say why doesn’t Dacula have this status as well? Dacula deserves to be an historic place. In my case, I prefer to live in the suburbs. I am a person who likes peace with fresh air and no traffic around, where you can walk at anytime with your dog or go fishing in the nearest lake, very similar to Doraville 50 years ago. Nowadays, Doraville is a good place to live for some people because everything is accessible, but it is still too crowd for me. Actually I live in Dacula, and I am living the same experience that people in 1950 enjoyed in Doraville.
May be in 50 years I will be one of those people who ask to give to Dacula a “historic” status if I am still living there.
I found this particular article really interesting. It is incredible that people still living at the same house that they bought over 50 years ago. I do agree on the conservation of the outside part of the houses but I have strong belives that the inside needs to be updated. Sometimes I get so upset to see those huge houses around Atlanta and I start to think, Do people really need to live in such a big place? I feel certain that they do not need all that space. It is a waste of space. There are so many people out there that do not have a single room to live. I am very happy that Doraville is keeping a normal sized home. I will keep mine fingers crossed for them to get the area as a "historic" place.
ReplyDeleteThe found the article interesting because talked about the first planned suburban community in Georgia. The fact that they are trying to turn it a historical center is wonderful. The subdivision will keep his characteristics from 50 years ago and will make a lot of residents so proud of this. I do not really known a lot about Doraville and Atlanta at all, but to find out that here there are places with a lot of history, means lot to me, and it must be preserve.
ReplyDeleteI didn`t know anything about doraville even though i go that area everyday. i was suprised about that doraville is historical village.
ReplyDeleteI thought about doraville as mexican and asian town because i can see a lot of mexican business and asian business. my uncle used to have mexican night club at doraville, what i saw is people commited crimes, drinking, hanging around there. But this article tought me that doraville is historical town, it make me check again about doraville area.

ReplyDeleteI think than doraville as hole sale place and just old town. In GA there are many nice place but doravill looks very old.
