The web address of this blog, “Touch of Country in the City,” is from the song “Doraville,” a 1974 top 40 hit by the band Atlanta Rhythm Section. Atlanta English Institute is on the edge of Doraville, a small city of much fondness and significance to me. In the eighties, when I first taught in Doraville at Oakcliff, the touch of country was changing into a city including immigrants. Thus I taught my first ESL pupils here. In 2009, I returned to instruct adults. Hopefully my labors in Doraville, at two different times in my career, have brought a touch of English, current events, and learning into students’ lives. To my current pupils, remember that I am here to help you.
