The iPad Launch: Can Steve Jobs Do It Again?

Time, which began in 1923, was the first weekly news magazine in the US. The current circulation includes 3.4 million readers. Each edition includes serious news, plus coverage of politicians, celebrities, entertainment, and pop culture. Four editions are published: USA, Asian, South Pacific, and European - which also covers Latin America.

Morning Joe is a weekday morning talk show on MSNBC from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. The news of the day is discussed in a panel format with co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist. Host Joe Scarborough, on vacation, is not seen in this clip. The panel members are: newspaper columnist Mike Barnicle, business reporter Maria Bartiromo, and the editor of Time International, Michael Elliott.

On most Fridays, a Time editor is on Morning Joe to announce and discuss the new magazine cover story. This story is on Steve Jobs, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Apple Computers, who is a powerful man in business. If you have benefitted from the ease of using a personal computer or a mobile phone, tuned into digital music, or enjoyed the latest animated film – you have Steve Jobs to thank.

Why are people in awe of Steve Jobs? Have any of his inventions benefitted you? How? Do you plan to buy a new iPAD? Why, or why not? Will the iPAD be a success or failure?

  1. Hi, Knox and Students! I really like your new blog and I am reading it though I am not commenting. You are making it easy to keep up with the latest news and I thank you for that.

I did not stand in line for an iPAD as I am not what is known as an early-adopter. However, I usually come around to whatever Steve Jobs invents because he knows what I want --even before I do! This was true with his early computers which were so much easier to use than the PC's of the day. I owned several Apple computers and loved them all. Then I invested in an ipod and as soon as I got used to that I discovered the iPhone and my life has not been the same. I love the applications from language translations, to yoga classes, to Starbucks finders. I can check my email on the go, get directions, listen to music, take pictures, watch videos -- it's so useful it's crazy. So, I'm sure that the day will come when I, like millions of other people, will buy an iPAD and wonder how I lived without it!

  2. I think people are awe with Stephen Fry because they are disapointed with his new invention the iPAD. I have an iphone and I love it. I think is a very cool invention. I use it for many thinks but my favorite application is the the dictionary and the camera. I have a digital camera but I do not use it anymore. My only down point for the iphone is the price for the service, it is only available with At & T and it is very expensive for me. I would love to buy the new iPAD. I think it is pretty cool, it is like a big iphone. I will probably wait for a little while until purchasing one because like all the new technologies, it might be out of my budget for now. I am very excited about the iPAD, I am hoping some of my friends will buy one so I can test it out.

  3. I think the new iPad is going to be so acceptable for everybody like the iPhone was. I just think that is not everyone that can afford it. I really do not care because I am not really fan of technology, I do not have patience to be in front of the computer for hours like a lot of people like to or if I have one of those iPad I know that I will not use all the functions that it can offer me. I agree that is really useful because in just one phone you are connected with the world. You have GPS, internet a lot of stuff that you can do with it, and it is awesome. Like a said for me is not a big deal because I have a simple phone, it offers me things that I can do but I have never tried. Maybe one day I will be or best saying I must keep up with the technology and live the nest. I know that a lot of people is already getting crazy for one of them, and I am pretty sure that with the time comes everybody is going to have one.

  5. Awesome! I love this kind of stuff. I strongly agree with Nola. In a few years we will think how we lived without it! I am an IT guy and always I have felt attracted for new electronic devices and everything that makes our life easier. I think we have seen the tip of the iceberg only. iPAD is just the beginning of a bunch of electronics that Apple has made for us. I never have had an Apple computer because I can’t afford it, but their prices are worth it, for Apple has quality and reliability. Apple has the best of the best. Once people get one, they never let it go and they demand more and more from it. Last session I made a presentation about technology and one of my topics was Apple. Definitely, this family has several products with difficulty any competitor could beat. Can you Imagine Appletv, iPOD Touch and a Mac computer built in an iPAD? All of them in one? What else do you need in only one device together? I mean, I have no words. Thanks, Steve Jobs!
Also, I would like to share this video with you. Enjoy!

  6. iPAD looks like a big iPOD or iPHONE. and I agree with that. 'Big' is important thing. In fact, iPod is too small to use watch movie or play something like application.
I love iPOD except for the battery. It's too small to use all day long. but iPAD can play movie for 11 hour.
I hope as soon as posible iPAD can show up Korean.

  7. People that work finding new technologies are called a genius. These people never take a rest. They do not have a weekend together with his/her families, because to they are really busy discovering something that many people say is a lost-time, and others say awesome. This happened with the latest invention from Apple Co., the bug called iPAD.
The opinions are split about that. For me, I think that it just is only business. These things do not change the world as neither Iphone or whatever recent invention there is.

  9. Why people like apple's ipad? Why people change thier cell phone to iphone?
I could see the ad about ipad and iphone in many news paper and media. So I really want to see and use that.
2 weeks ago I visited 'best buy' and I saw ipad.
I outlook was very nice. But I disapointed about the function. Because I couldn't find better function than netbook.
I think that people just be deceived by appearance.
ipad is good product. but it is not fantastical.

  10. I was one of the first people in front the Best Buy store to see the i-PAD. It was 8a.m. when I entered into the store. It was not very crowded as I expected , maybe there were no more i-Pads existing in the store at that time. The stock was already sold.
My first impression about i-PAD was that it looks like a bigger i-Phone. Actually the i-PAD does not offer new things, it is the turning point of new style computers. Thin, fast, no keyboard, userfriendly, light, mobility, cordless are the first amazing specifications which are presented to the customers. I guess it brings new things on the hardware side with technology, without any software.
There are a lot of specifications and reasons to have one. But when I saw and touched it, I did not feel like I wanted to have one. Because it is Apple and you have to buy Apple prıducts is not enough of a reason for me to purchcase one. To sync your media to i-Pad you have to use i-Tunes which I hate to use. Plus i-Pad has no USB connector and no camera. Writing without a keyboard and lying on a secreen is not comfortable. As an electronics engineer I use different kinds of software that are related with my job and compatible with Windows.
Against all my negative thoughts, i-Pad is the turning point for new generation of future computers. I believe that they will add a cam and USB in their next model.
Steve Jobs is a genuis. I remember one of his sentences about i-Pods. Technology almost came to its summit , now it is time for the people who ca n create fashion with it.
